How To: Get a new FNB Connect SIM card

Last modified date

Getting a new FNB Connect SIM card was the easiest and least painless process of getting a new SIM card we’ve ever had! We ordered a prepaid FNB Connect SIM card on a Thursday on the FNB banking app, it was delivered the following Monday by RAM couriers for FREE. The same day we received an SMS with our FNB Connect cellphone number, and an offer from Device Gurus to assist us with the SIM card. And, to top it all off, our new SIM card was RICA’d without us having to go to an FNB branch or a shop! Read more here on how to RICA a SIM card.

Buying an FNB Connect SIM card

We ordered our SIM card on the FNB banking app. This was simply the easiest way for us, but all places where you can buy an FNB Connect SIM card include:

  • The FNB banking app
  • FNB online banking website fnb.co.za
  • Walk into an FNB branch
  • Call the FNB call centre on 087 575 0147

To get an FNB Connect SIM card, you will need an FNB or RMB transactional account, which is an account that you use regularly like a cheque account. Your transactional account would then be used by FNB Connect to rate whether you qualify for the contract SIM cards.

  • Log into your FNB profile
  • Click on Menu, and then click on Connect under the menu items
  • In the Connect menu click on the Add SIM card button above your preferred SIM card – Prepaid, Contract, or Top Up
  • FNB will take you through the final steps to agree to their terms, and then your delivery address.

Buying an FNB Connect SIM card from a bank branch or call centre is much easier as the consultant will assist you through it. You will just need to validate your identity with them.

The different FNB Connect SIM cards

There are different FNB Connect SIM cards to choose from, which can equate to choosing your package type and price plan, and they include:

  • Postpaid Data – Bundled with data
  • Postpaid Lifestyle – A bundle with data, minutes and SMSs
  • Talk Max Postpaid – The FNB Connect card with an unlimited number of minutes, and a monthly bundle containing SMSs and monthly data
  • Flexi – This is a type of contract that you can design yourself with your desired monthly allocation of SMSes, data, and minutes
  • Top Up Data – You receive a set amount of data per month. You can then buy separately airtime, minutes, SMS, or data if you run out.
  • Top Up Lifestyle – You will receive a bundle of data, minutes, and SMSs. You can then buy data, airtime, minutes, or SMSs if you run out
  • Talk Max Top Up – You will receive an unlimited number of minutes, but with a set number of SMSs and amount of data. You can then top up your data or SMSs

We bought a Prepaid SIM card, and to our surprise, we had been rewarded with free 30 minutes voice bundle, 30 SMSs, and 1 GB of data, which all expire in 30 days.
