How To: Transfer your Data Bundles on Vodacom

Last modified date

To transfer your Vodacom data bundles to another Vodacom number you will need to be on a similar package to the number you want to transfer to. You can transfer prepaid to prepaid, but not prepaid to contract. You can’t transfer your prepaid daily data bundles to your MBB (Mobile BroadBand) SIM to try and use it before it expires.

Before transferring your data bundles you will need to link a qualifying Vodacom number for data transfer.

Can you link a number on the Vodacom app?

No, it is not possible to link a number on the Vodacom app for data transfer. We tried to link a new Vodacom number for data transfer on the Vodacom app but the ToBi app said it encountered an error. We tried several numbers that we were certain were on the same package type but always encountered an error. When we tried it using the USSD code it gave us absolutely no issue.

Please note that airtime transfer on Vodacom is possible on the app.

Next, you will then start to transfer your data bundles to your sponsored number. We could only transfer our data bundles after the number had already been linked using the USSD code channel.

How to transfer your Vodacom data bundles

We have available on our data bundles a 7-day 4 GB bundle which expires in 2 days’ time. So, we linked a matching number and decided to transfer 50MB.

Transfer using the Vodacom app

We were not able to find any menu item to transfer the data, but we asked ToBi to assist us. The bot asked us to select our previously linked number, choose a predetermined data amount to transfer, and then proceeded to transfer the chosen amount of data.
